Abstract

This study aims to describe the resistance of female characters to the power of patriarchy. The source of research data is a novel by Nh. Dini titled Tirai Menurun. This study uses a critical discourse analysis method with a feminism approach. Data collection techniques used are reading and note-taking techniques. Data analysis techniques in this study used qualitative analysis which consisted of three activities, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study are as follows. First, the resistance of “Sumirat” the female character. Sumirat figure is described as a woman who is resilient and is able to equalize the position of work with male figures. Second, the resistance of “Simbok Sumirat” the female character. Simbok Sumirat figure is depicted as a woman who dares to face threats or insinuations from male figures. Third, the resistance of “Kedasih” the female character. Kedasih figure is considered as a woman who is always tough when facing social problems due to male characters in the novel.
